Open Office Version 3.2.1
Sun Microsystems has released (10th June 2010) the latest version of Open Office – Version 3.2.1
This is a bug-fix release to the previous version 3.2.0.
New features are:
- Faster startup time
- ODF Suport (Open Document Format – XML version of your spreadsheet, document etc. for data transfer etc.)
- Proprietory file support (not specified but Open Office already supports many file formats for interchange with Microsoft products for example)
- Support for Postscript based OpenType fonts
At asap2web we recommend Open Office BUT as with all new versions of software (especially free software) you should make sure you leave a copy of the last version you’re happy with on your system. Take care when installing the new version that you don’t select an option that will overwrite or remove your old version. Also, evaluate the new version before committing yourself to any important work on it.

Maxine Tricker needed a site to show the services she offers as a garden designer. It was important to show customers how her design process works and also display a portfolio of her work. She also needed to be able to maintain the content for her portfolio. We developed a straightforward way for Maxine to do this and provided training. We also trained Maxine in the use of a graphics program so she could easily scale and enhance the pictures for her portfolio.
We also supplied, free of charge, an HTML Email signature so all emails sent would display her company logo, telephone & website details together with a direct link to her website.

Amanda Lincoln needed a website to exacting standards that had to be pixel perfect. Colour was also very important to Amanda as the colours had to match with existing artwork and printing. Amanda supplied the graphic images and we built the website. Her five portfolio categories contain up to 12 items each of which about half are displayed as flash animations with various images fading in on top of each other.
The best web solution for Amanda was a Multi Page Pro supplied with extra Flash animation. We also supplied Amanda with an HTML Email signature so any emails she sends has her logo with contact details and a link to her website.

He didn’t need to change the content much and so a Business Starter Website with 5 extra pages was the perfect choice. He also needed leaflets and business cards. At a later date he needed a 1600 letter mailshot which we were able to produce for him supplied as a PDF document to print on his own medium volume printer.
We were able to remove about 400 duplicated names and addresses from the list supplied and saved Andrew over £300 in production and postage costs.
We also supplied free of charge, the logo artwork in the correct vector image file format for a sign writing company to sign write his vehicle, artwork for garment printing, a proforma letterhead artwork so he could print his letterhead on his colour laser printer or inkjet printer in high quality and an HTML Email signature so all emails sent would display his logo, telephone & website details together with a direct link to his website.

Andrew Parker of PDE Limited needed a website to stand out from their competitors. They deliver high quality bespoke work, specialising in precision, structural and architectural engineering. They have a large number of high profile customers including National Heritage, Balfour Beatty, Meggitt, Skansa and Napier Acoustics. They were suppliers for architectural engineering features for the recently renovated St. Pancras station. It was really important that they had a feature to make their website unique. So we created the “Parkermen” Flash animation to display on their front page whilst leaving visitors to move on to other pages without waiting for the Flash to complete.
PDE Limited needed 10 pages for their website so the Multi Page Pro was chosen.
The website needed the addition of various customer logos. These were re-originated to best quality. PDE Limited also support Help for Heroes and The Peace Hospice. Permission was obtained to use these logos on the website.
